Counting down...

Greetings, welcome to my blog. Although nomadicism (is that a word...oh well, it is now!) is deeply ingrained in my being, I do occasionally despair at just how scattered around the globe my loved ones are and how rarely I actually get to see any of you. Anyhoo, since joining the Foreign Service and committing myself to a life on the move, I figured that I should have a static website where people can keep up, if they so desire, with the tedium of my existance.

It's hard to believe that I leave for Pakistan in just a little over a week. On some levels, I feel really overwhelmed at all that has to get done before then. On the other hand, I just wish the time would pass faster. It seems as though I've been in training forever, preparing for this moment. It's weird to think that just a year ago I was still in Germany, trying to figure out my move back to the States after many years as an ex-pat. Germany had become my home, and I was truly reluctant to leave it and all of the wonderful friends I had made there.

This past year has been a bit of a blur. While I've technically been an FSO since last November, it's been more like being back in college, without the ramen noodles. The training has been really good (who woulda thunk it a year ago that I would now be fluent in Urdu!!!!!), and I'm now really anxious to put myself to the test. I need to find out for myself if I can actually hack this job.

I guess we'll just have to see...
